Failure isn’t fatal — it’s normal! Just look around. All of us mess up from time to time. Somebody recently gave me a book, “The (Incomplete) Book of Failures: The Official Handbook of the Not-Terribly-Good Club of Great Britain.” When they printed the book, they forgot to print the first two pages and had to add it later. Even the book was a failure!
Unfortunately, we tend to hyper-focus on our own shortcomings, and that robs us of our confidence. That’s part of what happened to the first disciples. Yesterday, I told you how amazed I was that the first disciples went from defeated to dynamic so quickly after the Resurrection. I shared with you the first of three roadblocks to confidence that the disciples illustrated: fatigue.
The second of these roadblocks is failure. Matthew 26:56 says, “All the disciples deserted him and fled” (NIV). One of the main reasons the confidence of the disciples was so shaken was their sense of failure for having deserted Jesus. Plus, the thriving movement they were a part of — the ministry of Jesus — was seemingly dead. They were having a pity party. They were second-guessing themselves and wondering what went wrong. Jesus was supposed to be the Messiah, but then he died. I’m sure they were asking, “Why me? Who cares? What now?”
What’s the antidote to failure? It’s perseverance. You overcome failure when you admit it to God and keep doing what God has called you to do regardless of setbacks. The Bible reminds us that God specializes in using failures. The fact is, just three days after Jesus was crucified and the disciples thought their lives were in the tank, Jesus rose from the dead. God specializes in lost causes.
The Bible says in Proverbs 24:16, “Even if good people fall seven times, they will get back up. But when trouble strikes the wicked, that’s the end of them” (CEV).
Are you ready to get back up?
Talk About It
What is your usual reaction to failure?
How have you let your failures keep you from doing what God has called you to do?

This is to the glory of the Living God who lives and reigns forever.
Madam Angela Amartey, a mother of three girls received the shock of her life when her second daughter Daniella Senadzo now five years was diagnosed of having a serious heart related problem by the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu. The only solution was for an open heart surgery to be done immediately. The cost of the surgery was 20,000 Ghana Cedis but the Ghana Heart Foundation agreed to bear half of the cost of the operation.
With a lot of determination, she was able to raise 10,000 Ghana cedis from philanthropists and other well-wishers including ICGC-Hosanna Temple. She had so much faith in God, knowing very well that the chance of survival of her daughter even during or after the operation was fifty – fifty, but she never gave up.
The operation was successful on the 18th February 2012 but within 24 hours, little Daniella was torn between life and death. Madam Angela never gave up; all she could do was to pray to her Maker, she slept on the hospital floor among the sick children, took care of her child and prayed for her until the danger was completely over. When little Daniella regained consciousness, all she could ask her mum is that she will drink “sobolo” and the doctor in charge quick responded but saying “grant unto the little girl as she has wished”. This brought joy to her mother and all those attending to her. They were discharged on the 24th February 2012. Her recovery from the operation was so fast and even amazed all the medical doctors. [The Miraculous Hand of God is At Work]
This is what God can do when you do not give up in any situation no matter how difficult it would be.

“The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate of the produce of Canaan”. Joshua 5:12

God calls you to eat from the fruit of your own work. During the exodus from Egypt, Israel had to eat manna, the supernatural provision of God because there was no ability to make a living in the desert.
However, the moment they stepped into the Promised Land, the manna stopped because God had brought them into a new place. The new land could yield food and provision for their families. They simply had to work for it.
For most of us, God has provided us an ability to derive our provision from the work He has called us to do. God made a covenant with His people that provision would always be there if they were faithful to His commands.
‘You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock – the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out” (Deut 28:3-6).
In order for this promise to be fulfilled, we must fulfill His requirements. We must love the Lord our God with all our hearts and minds. And we must avoid having any idols in our lives that will take the place of God.
Every believer is called to come out of “Egypt” and enter into our own Promised Land. He has already set aside the land for you. It is your responsibility to cultivate the land to derive maximum harvest from it.
“The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of His bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands” (Deut 28:12).

Prayer: Release the blessing of fruitfulness and prosperity on all the works of your hands.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. ‘I cannot go in these,’ he said to Saul, ‘because I am not used to them.’ So he took them off. 1 Samuel 17:39

David, the young shepherd boy, heard the challenge from the Philistines to send someone to fight Goliath. No one volunteered to fight except David. King Saul reluctantly agreed and offered David his armour. David put on the weighty equipment, but quickly concluded he could not fight in this heavy armour. He gave it back to Saul.
God equips each of us in such a way that is unique to our strengths and abilities. David knew who he was and who he wasn’t. David was trained as a shepherd to use another weapon. For David, it was a slingshot. David showed great maturity in realizing he could not be effective with Saul’s armour.
What are the gifts and talents God has given to you? Have you ever tried to accomplish a task with tools you were not trained to use? God allows each of us to develop skills that are unique to our life purposes. He will not call you to use someone else’s tools.
However, this is only half of the equation. These talents must be mixed with faith. Talent alone is not enough. Faith alone is not enough. It is only when the two are combined that God’s power is released and manifested in the physical realm.
Sometimes we admire the talents of others and seek to emulate them. We are tempted to be someone we are not. This is a mistake. Be happy to be the unique you. Then, mix your unique gifts with faith, and you will be surprised at the power of God that will be manifested through you.
Prayer: Thank God for making you unique and special.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10

The Bible tells us that we must all appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ. This word “appear” can be translated, “to make manifest.” This suggests that the purpose of the Judgment seat of Christ is a public manifestation, or demonstration, of the essential characters and motives of an individual. This is a truth we must always keep in mind as we live our earthly lives. There is a day of accountability coming.
God has a reward for those who have faithfully served Him and punishment for those who reject Him. We can’t live anyhow and hope that in the end everything will turn out well. The truth is that our lives are going on record and our deeds are being monitored. One day we will appear before God to settle accounts.
What will be judged is what we have done, whether good or bad. The word used for “bad” in this verse is not only speaking of something ethically or morally evil but also of things we did without thinking. The idea is of someone who wasted his or her life, a life that was good for nothing. It is someone who has thrown away his or her time, energy, and life in general.
Maybe all we did was to follow the crowd. That kind of thoughtless wing will be brought before God’s judgment.
What are you doing with your life? You know what Christ has done for you. What are you doing for Him? Are you wasting your life on nothingness?

Prayer: Lord, give me the grace and wisdom to make my life count for Your Kingdom.
Scriptural Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-11
